A selection of my favourite photographs

This photo was taken looking up in between the glass facade and the interlocking circles which are attached to the outside of Birmingham City Library.

I love this photo as it is an unusual view of a modern building.

Capturing People

I thoroughly enjoy using photographs to capture moments in time, especially when it comes to people doing everyday activities.

The majority of these photos are taken on the quiet, but I did ask the three people in the middle photo. I had just joined a photography club and the competition assignment we were given was a portrait.

I was quite nervous asking them for their permission, but delighted with the end result.

Drawings from my travels

These are a small selection of my favourite drawings from my travels throughout the UK, Europe and Asia.

I opt for drawing with pencil and in either an A5 or A4 sketchbook, as it suits doing double page spreads as well as smaller compositions which I have recently started to make into collages.

I love the composition in this drawing, where the sweeping lines of the stones in the foreground add movement to the image.

Drawing from Life

All of my drawings are drawn from life. There is nothing quite like the feel and experience of drawing in-situ.

I love the way my drawings seem to evolve on the page  - starting with the overall composition, then zooming in and out of each detail as my eye darts around the view.

There really is nothing quite like drawing from life, particularly as I get to remember my travels, in much greater detail, every time I look back at my sketches.

Drawing every day

During my travels in Asia in 2023, I commited myself to drawing each day. I decided that it didn't matter what I drew, or how long the drawing took, I would draw something everyday.

In this photo you can see a double page spread from when I was in Bali. The drawing at the bottom of the page is of the Temple of Heaven. It took around 2 hours to complete, as it was such a complex building. But equally, there is a drawing of my glasses at the top of the page, which only took a few minutes to draw.

Spending time each day drawing whatever interested me, was one of the highlights of my travels.
